App support and software maintenance for scaleups: ongoing bug fixing, OS and security updates, performance improvement, and feature development. Scalable engineering capacity built to grow with your product and headcount.
Scaleups live on velocity. Your product needs bug fixes and security updates, but you also need new features shipping. Rather than split your engineering team between reactive maintenance and proactive development, a dedicated support retainer absorbs the ongoing work. Your core team stays focused on what moves the needle. We handle the patches, OS upgrades, and bug triage, freeing your engineers to build. This separation of concerns also makes it easier to estimate and plan: your feature roadmap sits in one budget, operational stability sits in another.
02
Scalable capacity without headcount risk
Hiring engineers is slow and expensive. A maintenance retainer gives you immediate, flexible engineering capacity that grows with your needs. Early on, you might need two engineers covering bug fixes and minor improvements. Six months later, as your user base scales, you add a third. Our nearshore model (UK, Spain, Ukraine) means you can dial capacity up and down without the hiring, onboarding, and severance costs of permanent headcount. You get experienced engineers who know your systems, not a revolving door of contractors.
Your app is running in production. Users depend on it. The cost of downtime grows as your user base grows. Security vulnerabilities matter more. Performance degradation gets noticed faster. Software maintenance services keep pace with that risk. We proactively monitor, patch, and optimise. We prioritise security fixes and critical bugs in the triage process. When your app needs performance improvements or architectural adjustments, we spot them before they become crises and flag them to your team. Stability isn't glamorous, but it's the foundation every scaleup needs to actually scale.

Keeping live apps stable as you scale
WHAT YOU GET
Built around how your business works
Bug fixes and security patches delivered without disrupting your live product
Performance tuning and OS updates handled by engineers who understand your codebase
Feature development work prioritised alongside maintenance, keeping your roadmap moving
Flexible team scaling: add capacity as your headcount and product demands grow

Evolve ran a series of workshops with key business stakeholders to understand the business challenge we were facing and to help us define the right solution. The team then held my hand every step of the way in developing our Discount and Rebate Management Solution, which went live in January across 7 countries.

ABOUT US
Read our story
Founded in 2007 as a dedicated IT consultancy, Evolved Ideas has grown into a team of over 100 professionals, with a head office in Leicester and development hubs in Eastern Europe and Spain.
Scaleups in the UK and Europe grow fast and hire aggressively, but they often under-invest in the engineering infrastructure that keeps products stable. A maintenance retainer solves this without adding permanent headcount during your hypergrowth phase. Our nearshore delivery model (Leicester, Spain, Ukraine) means you get experienced engineers who overlap your timezone, understand UK and European compliance expectations, and cost significantly less than hiring full-time in London or major tech hubs. For scaleups planning Series A or B, having documented software maintenance and proactive engineering support also builds confidence with investors that your technical foundations are solid.
Our process has guided startups, scaleups and enterprises from concept to reality, and continues after launch.

OUR SOLUTIONS
We build solutions for your business challenges
Technology is more than just code — it's a tool for solving real business challenges. Whichever route fits your stage, the same team delivers it.
Bespoke Software
With your long-term goals in mind, we help you choose the technology you need and develop a tech roadmap based on industry trends, emerging tech and your business requirements.
We have years of experience building proof of concepts and MVPs. We will take you from testing viability to building an MVP to validate your hypotheses.
Tier 1 customer support, Tier 2 technical support and Tier 3 development support for applications and legacy software, delivered by our engineering teams.
If you need to build an IT team from zero or need staff augmentation, we can build the team you need — developers, designers, analysts and even fractional CTOs.
How does app support scale with our team as we hire more engineers?
Your maintenance retainer can flex. If you start with two engineers on our team handling bugs and patches, you can add a third as your user base grows and support demands increase. Conversely, if you hire in-house engineers who can take on maintenance work, you can reduce the retainer hours or shift focus to specialist areas like performance tuning. We work with your headcount plan, not against it. Most scaleups find the right balance is a small stable retainer for the things you don't want in-house (OS patches, legacy code, security triage) and a growing core team for product features.
What happens to our app if you need to handle a major incident?
Incidents get priority. If your app goes down or a critical security issue surfaces, the retainer work pauses and our team moves to triage and fix. We communicate status in real-time via your preferred channel. Once the incident is resolved, we resume the scheduled maintenance work. This is why retainer-based support is better than ad-hoc fixes: we already know your codebase, your deployment process, and your architecture. We can act fast because we're already embedded, not onboarding cold.
Can you maintain multiple products at once?
Yes. Many scaleups start with one core product but quickly spin up complementary apps, internal tools, or MVP experiments. A single retainer can cover multiple codebases if the total hours are consistent. We manage the prioritisation with you. Some products get 40 hours a week, others get 10. We track this in our retainer reporting so you see exactly where effort goes and can adjust as priorities shift.
How do you report on maintenance work to our board or investors?
We send monthly reports showing hours logged, bugs fixed, security patches applied, performance improvements made, and any technical debt flagged for future work. Most scaleups need this for audit and investor confidence. We highlight what matters to a board: stability metrics, security compliance status, and any architectural risks that need budget or attention. If your investors ask about app health or technical risk, you have documented evidence from your maintenance partner.
What if maintenance reveals that our app needs a major rewrite or rebuild?
We flag it. During routine maintenance, we often spot architectural patterns, legacy code, or performance bottlenecks that point to bigger work. We'll document the issue, explain the risk, and propose a scope for a rebuild or refactor. That work sits outside the maintenance retainer and gets quoted separately. We don't hide problems or push unnecessary work. We tell you what we find, give you options, and let you decide whether the risk is worth addressing now or later.
Do you manage OS and security updates, or do we own that?
We manage it as part of the retainer. Your app runs on an OS and sits behind infrastructure that needs patching. We coordinate updates with your infrastructure team (or cloud provider), test them in a staging environment, and roll them to production. We track which versions you're running, flag end-of-life dates, and plan migrations ahead of time. This is a core part of keeping your app stable and secure as a scaleup. You shouldn't be doing this yourself.
