Ongoing bug fixes, OS and security updates, performance improvements, and feature development for live apps. Evolved Ideas provides app support and maintenance retainers for CTOs and product owners in Leeds and across the UK.
A live app is never finished. Security threats emerge, operating systems update, user expectations shift, and performance issues surface under real load. Without structured maintenance, technical debt grows quietly. Each month of neglect makes the next fix harder and more expensive. CTOs and product owners need a partner who treats maintenance as strategic, not reactive. This is where a retainer model works: predictable costs, clear priorities, and someone accountable for keeping your app healthy while you focus on new features and growth.
We start by understanding your app's architecture, current pain points, and business priorities. We document existing issues, identify security or performance gaps, and agree on what 'healthy' looks like for your product. From there, we work in sprints: handling urgent bugs in parallel with planned improvements, keeping you informed every step. Because we're timezone-aligned with your Leeds team (or UK operations), handoffs are clean. When complexity requires depth, we can bring in specialist knowledge from our centres of excellence without losing continuity. You get a single point of contact, not a rotating ticket queue.

How we approach ongoing support in Leeds

Retainer vs project: choosing the right model
Project work suits defined scope and deadlines. A retainer suits products that need ongoing care. If your app is live, generating revenue, or critical to operations, a retainer gives you budget certainty, faster response times, and the ability to shift priorities month to month without renegotiating contracts. You pay for a block of capacity (hours per week or sprint capacity) rather than a project estimate. This works for CTOs managing multiple products, founders scaling fast, and teams that have hit the limits of hiring and training in-house.

CASE STUDIES
How we've transformed enterprises, SMEs and startups
Founded in 2007 as a dedicated IT consultancy, Evolved Ideas has grown into a team of over 100 professionals, with a head office in Leicester and development hubs in Eastern Europe and Spain.
Leeds has a growing fintech and professional-services sector where live applications are core to business operations. Companies in the region value long-term partnerships and practical, hands-on support over transactional vendor relationships. App support and maintenance retainers suit Leeds-based CTOs and product owners who need local accountability combined with access to a wider talent pool. Evolved Ideas' UK base in Leicester, paired with nearshore capability, gives Leeds teams the timezone overlap and language continuity they expect while avoiding the cost and hiring friction of expanding in-house.
Our process has guided startups, scaleups and enterprises from concept to reality, and continues after launch.

If you need to build an IT team from zero or need staff augmentation, we can build the team you need — developers, designers, analysts and even fractional CTOs.
What's included in an app support and maintenance retainer?
A retainer covers bug fixes, OS and security updates, performance improvements, and agreed-scope feature development. You define the weekly or sprint capacity (e.g. 20 hours per week), and we allocate that time to your priorities: critical fixes get handled immediately, smaller improvements and refactoring fit into planned sprints. Not included are major rewrites or new product development, though those can be scoped separately if needed.
How quickly can you respond to urgent bugs?
Critical issues (security vulnerabilities, complete outages, data loss) get looked at the same working day. We triage severity with you and allocate resources accordingly. Because we work UK hours and have nearshore backup, we can often start investigation within hours. Non-critical bugs are logged, prioritized, and scheduled into the next available sprint slot based on impact.
Do I need to hand over all my code and infrastructure?
No. We work with what you have: GitHub, GitLab, your hosting provider, your CI/CD setup. We don't require exclusive access, and you maintain full control. We ask for the access we need to do the work (repository, staging/production environments, monitoring tools) and document everything so you can move to another team if circumstances change. Transparency and ownership stay with you.
Can a maintenance retainer cover legacy app modernisation?
Yes, but with a caveat. If your app is actively used and generating revenue, maintenance keeps it running while you plan modernisation. We can run both in parallel: retainer hours keep the lights on, and a separate project scope handles the migration or rewrite. Many of our Leeds clients run this model, spending retainer time on stability and small improvements while scheduling a modernisation project for a defined phase.
What if my maintenance needs spike one month?
Retainer hours roll over or flex within reason. If you hit a spike (major update, urgent security patch), you can pull in extra capacity for that month, and we adjust the following month. We work on honest forecasting, not overpromising and underdelivering. Pricing scales with capacity, so flexibility is built in without surprise costs.
How do you avoid becoming a blocker for your own fixes?
We treat maintenance code to the same standard as any production code: code review, testing, documentation. But we don't introduce process overhead that slows you down. If you need a fix deployed today, we can do that. If you prefer staged rollouts or approval gates, we work within your process. We stay small and pragmatic, not ceremonial.
