01

Why an extended development team fits product and project management

Product managers juggle competing stakeholder demands, shifting priorities, and delivery commitments that rarely stay static. Project managers need predictable capacity without the friction of permanent hiring. An extended development team sits between your roadmap and execution, absorbing spikes in work while staying aligned to your sprint rhythm and reporting cadence. You keep control of strategy and timelines. We provide the people and execution discipline. That separation matters because it means your team stays lean on overhead while your delivery pace stays consistent.

How extended capacity works with your existing processes

A dedicated development partner doesn't ask you to adopt their methodology or reporting structure. Instead, we join your rituals: standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos. Your developers, QA, and DevOps staff become part of the same team without needing to be on your payroll. We work in your ticketing system, speak your agile language, and feed data into your project dashboards. If you use Jira, we use Jira. If you work two-week sprints, we work two-week sprints. The integration is about fit, not compromise.

Permanent hires lock in salary, benefits, and recruitment risk. A team extension gives you developer, QA, and DevOps capacity that scales with actual demand. Need three engineers for six months? You have them. Need five next quarter when a feature gets pushed? You scale up. Need two in the off-season? You scale back. There's no penalty for changing direction, no severance conversations, no bench time you're paying for. The cost model matches the work, not the headcount.

WHAT YOU GET

Built around how your business works

  • Developers, QA, and DevOps staff who integrate into existing sprints and delivery cadence without onboarding friction.
  • Scale capacity up or down with your product roadmap. No redundancy costs when demand shifts.
  • Reporting and retrospectives align with your governance, not ours. You own the schedule.
  • Nearshore delivery from UK, Spain, and Ukraine means timezone overlap, no language barriers, and cost control.
  • Your product roadmap stays yours. We deliver against it, not around it.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

Evolve ran a series of workshops with key business stakeholders to understand the business challenge we were facing and to help us define the right solution. The team then held my hand every step of the way in developing our Discount and Rebate Management Solution, which went live in January across 7 countries.

LOCAL INSIGHT

Working with businesses in the UK

Product and project managers in UK-based organisations often face bandwidth bottlenecks that permanent hiring won't solve fast enough. Whether you're managing a mid-market platform roadmap or leading delivery across multiple concurrent projects, short-term headcount gaps create schedule risk and stakeholder friction. An extended development team from a nearshore partner reduces that risk without the complexity of international time zones or outsourced hand-offs. You get engineering capacity that speaks the same language, understands UK business culture, and can start contributing to your sprints within weeks rather than months. That speed and cultural alignment directly improves your ability to keep stakeholders confident in delivery timelines.

FAQ

Questions we hear most often

Still unsure how this would work for your business?

How quickly can an extended team integrate into our existing sprints?

Typically two to three weeks. We run a structured onboarding: pairing with your developers, reviewing your codebase and architecture, attending your sprint planning, and shadowing your QA process. By sprint three, new team members operate independently within your defined workflows. We don't ask you to reshape your processes to fit us. We learn yours first.

What happens if we need to reduce capacity mid-project?

You have the flexibility to scale down with notice. Unlike permanent staff, there's no redundancy cost or long exit conversations. If your roadmap shifts or a feature gets deprioritised, you adjust team size to match the work. We've built this into how we structure engagement specifically because product requirements change.

Who owns the backlog and roadmap decisions?

You do. Your product manager owns the roadmap. Your project manager owns the schedule. We deliver against them. Our developers don't decide what gets built or when. They contribute estimates and technical input during refinement, but the strategy and prioritisation stay with your leadership. We're the execution partner, not the decision maker.

Can we use the extended team for both planned features and urgent production issues?

Yes. The team operates within your sprint commitment and can absorb production support, bug fixes, and unplanned work alongside planned delivery. We help you set a sustainable balance so that firefighting doesn't derail your roadmap. That negotiation happens in your retro and sprint planning, same as with internal staff.

How do you report progress and issues to our stakeholders?

We feed data into your existing dashboards and reporting cadence. Burndown charts, velocity, blockers, and risks appear in your project management tool (Jira, Azure DevOps, Monday.com, etc.). You pull reports using your format, not ours. We don't create a separate reporting layer. Your stakeholder comms stay simple.

What if we discover mid-delivery that a feature is harder than estimated?

We flag it early in the sprint. Your team and ours discuss the trade-off: extend the timeline, reduce scope, or add capacity. That conversation happens in your retro or sprint planning, using your governance. Honest estimation and re-estimation are built into how we work. We don't hide overruns until sprint end.
