Managed Software Projects for Retail and Ecommerce
End-to-end project ownership for retail and ecommerce platforms. From discovery through UX, build, QA, launch and ongoing support. Full project ownership, no handoffs.
Retail and ecommerce software is unlike other sectors. You have seasonal peaks, inventory dependencies, payment integrations, and customer experience standards that directly affect revenue. A project manager juggling five clients or a development team with high turnover doesn't understand your margin constraints or the cost of a broken checkout at Christmas. Evolved Ideas assigns a core team to your project from day one, staying through launch and into year one. They own the customer experience, the architecture decisions, the QA standards. No ping-pong between agencies. No 'that wasn't in scope.' When inventory visibility fails or omnichannel orders break at 9pm on Boxing Day, your team knows exactly who to call.

Why Retail Projects Need Dedicated Ownership
02
Platform Design Built for Seasonal Volatility
Retail businesses don't need platforms that work fine in July. They need systems that scale through October to December, handle traffic spikes on sale days, and manage inventory across multiple channels without losing stock accuracy. During discovery and scoping, we map your peak season load, stock synchronization delays, and channel conflict points. The architecture and database design reflect those realities from the foundation. You avoid the nightmare of rebuilding your ecommerce platform mid-trading-season because it can't handle concurrent orders. We also design for your specific omnichannel model: whether you're selling through a website, marketplace feeds, in-store POS, or mobile app, inventory moves as one system.
03
QA That Covers Retail Edge Cases
Standard QA checklists miss retail-specific risks: stock overselling during a flash sale, discount tiers that break when combined, failed payment notifications that leave orders in limbo, tax calculation errors across regions, or abandoned carts not triggering reminders at the right time. Our QA process includes retail scenarios specific to your business model. We test concurrency. We test payment gateway failures and fallback flows. We test inventory sync across your sales channels. We also involve your operations team in UAT so you catch customer experience problems before they affect real orders. The result is a platform you trust to handle peak trading without silent failures.
CASE STUDIES
How we've transformed enterprises, SMEs and startups
Founded in 2007 as a dedicated IT consultancy, Evolved Ideas has grown into a team of over 100 professionals, with a head office in Leicester and development hubs in Eastern Europe and Spain.
The team at Evolved Ideas work with us as extended team members, and very much as part of our team. They have just completed a major milestone in our development, going live with our new loan management platform, and we couldn't be happier.

OUR EXPERTISE
What we build
Over 17 years building custom software and mobile applications, and leveraging AI and ML to build the software you'll need next.
Retail and ecommerce in the UK faces rising customer expectations around delivery, returns, and omnichannel consistency, while tight margins demand cost control and stock accuracy. A managed project model removes the risk of mid-delivery vendor churn, unclear ownership, or scope creep that delays your launch into peak season. Evolved Ideas' UK-based delivery with nearshore capacity (Spain and Ukraine) means you get the project continuity and time-zone alignment a retail business needs, without the cost of permanent in-house developers.
Our process has guided startups, scaleups and enterprises from concept to reality, and continues after launch.
01
Discovery
A free 30-minute consultation followed by a stakeholder workshop, where we listen to your challenges, validate assumptions and build an outside-in view of your situation.
02
Plan & design
We scope the project, define milestones and deliverables, then research your market, wireframe the UX and prototype the UI so the direction is agreed before a line of code.
03
Build
We assemble your dedicated team, establish reporting and work in iterative Scrum sprints, delivering a working MVP or proof of concept you can test with real users.
04
Launch & support
We ship, sign off, and keep your product current through our support service or a permanent extended team as your business evolves.
Technology is more than just code — it's a tool for solving real business challenges. Whichever route fits your stage, the same team delivers it.
Bespoke Software
With your long-term goals in mind, we help you choose the technology you need and develop a tech roadmap based on industry trends, emerging tech and your business requirements.
We have years of experience building proof of concepts and MVPs. We will take you from testing viability to building an MVP to validate your hypotheses.
Tier 1 customer support, Tier 2 technical support and Tier 3 development support for applications and legacy software, delivered by our engineering teams.
If you need to build an IT team from zero or need staff augmentation, we can build the team you need — developers, designers, analysts and even fractional CTOs.
How do you handle stock synchronization across multiple sales channels?
Stock sync sits at the core of the architecture design, not bolted on later. During discovery, we map your channels, their APIs, and your current sync lag. We design the database to treat inventory as the single source of truth, with transaction logs that prevent overselling across channels. We configure webhooks or polling based on each channel's capabilities. Testing includes stress scenarios: simultaneous orders on your site and marketplace, failed sync attempts, and rollback procedures. Your operations team sees and validates the sync workflow before we build it.
What happens if customer demand peaks mid-project and we need to launch sooner?
Scope gets revisited, not timelines forced. We map your must-have versus nice-to-have features early in scoping. If a peak trading window approaches, we prioritize ruthlessly: core checkout, inventory display, payment processing, order notifications. Secondary features (advanced reporting, AI recommendations, loyalty integration) move to post-launch. The project team stays intact through the adjustment. You get a solid platform for your peak season and a clear roadmap for phase two.
How does managed project delivery differ from hiring an extended team?
Extended team models often mean you inherit hiring risk, onboarding overhead, and no single point of accountability if someone leaves. Managed delivery means Evolved Ideas holds the responsibility for outcomes, team stability, and quality standards. We staff the project with experienced people, manage skill gaps, handle absences, and stay committed to your timelines. You have budget predictability and a partner who answers for delivery, not a time-and-materials vendor with shifting team members.
Do you handle payment gateway integrations, or is that our responsibility?
We handle integration design and implementation. During scoping, we assess your payment processor (Stripe, Adyen, PayPal, etc.), your fraud rules, and your settlement requirements. We build the integration, handle error states (declined cards, 3D Secure flows, timeout recovery), and test with your processor's sandbox. We also coordinate with your finance team on reconciliation and reporting. You're not managing the technical side while we pretend the payment layer isn't our responsibility.
How long does a typical retail ecommerce project take from discovery to launch?
A straightforward platform (product catalog, cart, checkout, order management, basic reporting) typically takes 4 to 6 months. A more complex build (multi-vendor, subscription, extensive integrations, custom workflows) often runs 6 to 9 months. The timeline depends on scope clarity, decision speed, and design revisions. We lock the scope early and commit to the timeline. We also stay live during your soft launch phase to catch and fix issues before full traffic.
What ongoing support is included after launch, and what costs extra?
We include a post-launch support window (typically 30 to 60 days) to fix bugs introduced in live environment and resolve issues discovered by real traffic. After that, you move to a maintenance retainer that covers security updates, framework patches, bug fixes, monitoring, and on-call response to critical issues. Feature development (new product types, loyalty programs, reporting enhancements) is separate and negotiated as roadmap phases. You know exactly what's covered so there's no surprise billing.
