Nearshore Software Development for Startup Founders
Turn your startup idea into an investable product with UK-managed nearshore development. Work with experienced teams across Spain and Ukraine, aligned to your timezone, without the cost of hiring in-house.
Why Founders Choose Nearshore Over In-House or Offshore
Building a founding team is hard enough without adding engineering recruitment to the list. Hiring in-house means payroll, benefits, office costs, and risk on permanent headcount before you've proven product-market fit. Offshore teams in Asia offer low costs but timezone friction and communication delays that kill productivity on early-stage products. Nearshore sits between them. You get experienced developers in Spain and Ukraine, UK-managed by Evolved Ideas, so you have one point of contact. They're one or two hours ahead of London, not eight. You can have daily standups without someone joining at 6 AM or 10 PM. Costs run 30-50% lower than London salaries, but quality and reliability sit alongside your best-practice standards.

From Idea to Investable Product
Investors want to see working software, not wireframes. They want evidence of user traction and a team that can execute. Nearshore development lets you go from concept to MVP in weeks, not months, without the runway burn of hiring. You work with developers who understand startup constraints: moving fast, changing direction based on customer feedback, and shipping incrementally rather than perfecting behind the scenes. We don't just take a brief and disappear. We ask what problem you're solving, who's paying for it, and what learning you need from this release. Then we build it with that context in mind, so every line of code moves you toward product-market fit.
You own the relationship. Your developers report to you, not to a project manager three layers deep. We coordinate schedules, manage timezone differences, and handle HR compliance so you don't have to. You get a dedicated point of contact in the UK who knows your product roadmap and your team's working style. Code reviews, sprint planning, and demo calls happen with your engineering lead or CTO (if you have one). Slack, Jira, and GitHub are your communication layer. We stay out of the way unless you need strategic input. Most founders tell us they spend less time on engineering management with a nearshore team than they would hiring, onboarding, and managing a junior in-house developer.

Evolve ran a series of workshops with key business stakeholders to understand the business challenge we were facing and to help us define the right solution. The team then held my hand every step of the way in developing our Discount and Rebate Management Solution, which went live in January across 7 countries.

ABOUT US
Read our story
Founded in 2007 as a dedicated IT consultancy, Evolved Ideas has grown into a team of over 100 professionals, with a head office in Leicester and development hubs in Eastern Europe and Spain.
Startup founders face a specific problem: you need engineering talent now, but you can't justify full-time hires until you've hit certain milestones. Nearshore development from Spain and Ukraine, managed through our UK office, solves this. You get developers who work in your timezone, speak English fluently, and are used to the startup cadence of building fast and iterating. London-based founders also benefit from sitting in the same market as your development partner. We understand UK startup funding timelines, investor expectations, and the pace of growth from pre-seed through Series A. That context shapes how we build, what questions we ask upfront, and how we help you stay lean while moving quickly.
Our process has guided startups, scaleups and enterprises from concept to reality, and continues after launch.

OUR SOLUTIONS
We build solutions for your business challenges
Technology is more than just code — it's a tool for solving real business challenges. Whichever route fits your stage, the same team delivers it.
Bespoke Software
With your long-term goals in mind, we help you choose the technology you need and develop a tech roadmap based on industry trends, emerging tech and your business requirements.
We have years of experience building proof of concepts and MVPs. We will take you from testing viability to building an MVP to validate your hypotheses.
Tier 1 customer support, Tier 2 technical support and Tier 3 development support for applications and legacy software, delivered by our engineering teams.
If you need to build an IT team from zero or need staff augmentation, we can build the team you need — developers, designers, analysts and even fractional CTOs.
Can you help us move from founder-coded prototype to production-ready code?
Yes. Many founders start by coding themselves or using no-code tools, then hit a wall when product demands more than that architecture can handle. We assess what you've built, identify what needs rewriting or restructuring, and work with you to prioritize ruthlessly. Some code gets kept, some gets rebuilt, and some gets retired. We don't treat every line of founder code as sacred, but we also don't rewrite for the sake of it. The goal is a codebase you can actually ship to users and maintain as you hire.
What if we're not sure about our technical direction yet?
That's normal. Before we write much code, we talk about your users, your growth plan, and your constraints. Database choice, frontend framework, cloud infrastructure, and team skills all affect what you should build. We help you make those calls based on your stage, not on what's trendy. If you're pre-launch, you might want the fastest path to shipping, even if it's not the most scalable. Post-launch, scalability matters more. We adapt the recommendation to your actual business problem.
How do you handle the timezone difference between London and our Spain/Ukraine team?
Overlap is usually 7-9 hours per day. Daily standups run in UK morning time, so Spain (UTC+1 typically) joins at 8-9 AM their time, Ukraine (UTC+2) joins at 9-10 AM. You can pair-program in real time, run design reviews together, and resolve blockers same-day. We don't use async updates and hope things work out. You get synchronous communication with the people building your product.
Do we own the code and intellectual property?
Completely. Code is yours from day one. You also own architecture decisions, design patterns, and any tooling we create. We don't sell the same component or template to five other startups. Every engagement is bespoke to your product and your IP stays yours.
How much runway does an MVP typically burn versus hiring in-house?
That depends on scope, but let's say a simple SaaS MVP: a founder hiring one junior developer in London costs roughly 35-45k per year plus recruitment, equipment, and onboarding. A nearshore team can ship an MVP in 8-12 weeks for 30-50k, depending on complexity. After launch, you scale differently. If you keep a nearshore team, costs stay variable. If you hire in-house, costs become fixed. Most founders tell us they save money early and preserve optionality later.
What happens when we need to hand the product off to our own team later?
That's the plan. We document everything as we go: code, deployment processes, architecture decisions, and why we made them. When you hire your first engineer, we spend time onboarding them to the codebase and how it was built. If you want to run a knowledge transfer session, we do that too. Most founders eventually want some in-house engineering. Nearshore gets you to the point where you can hire smart and manage them well, rather than hiring desperately and managing chaos.
