Why Founders Skip Discovery (And Why They Shouldn't)
Most founders fall into one of two traps: either they build in their head without writing it down, or they hand a rough brief to the first developer and hope for the best. Both paths lead to the same place: a product that costs more than expected, takes longer than promised, and doesn't work the way you imagined. A structured discovery workshop is the counterweight. It's where you articulate what you're solving, who you're solving it for, and what the technical shape of that solution needs to be. This isn't fluffy strategy work. It's specific: database design, API contracts, third-party integrations, performance requirements, security assumptions. When you have this clarity, you make better hiring decisions, set realistic timelines, and show investors that you've thought through the technical architecture, not just the market opportunity.
