Custom software development built around your exact process. Tailored web platforms, internal systems, and workflow tools for Bristol SMEs, CTOs, and founders. Strategic partner, not transactional supplier.
Generic software forces you into workflows designed for someone else's business. You either adapt your team's processes to fit the tool, lose critical capabilities, or pay years of licensing fees for features you'll never use. Bespoke software development removes that friction. We spend time understanding how your SME actually works: where your bottlenecks are, what data flows matter, which integrations would save your team hours every week. Then we build a platform that fits your operation exactly. Web applications, internal systems, workflow automation, reporting dashboards, client portals, API integrations. Whatever your process needs.
We're not a black-box vendor. You work with consultants and technical leads who are accessible and invested in your outcome. We start with discovery: interviews, process mapping, and honest advice about what software can and cannot solve. Then we move into build, with regular demos and feedback loops so you see progress and catch misalignment early. Your team stays involved, not sidelined. For implementation and ongoing maintenance, we bring in engineers from our nearshore hubs in Spain and Ukraine. That mix gives you senior UK expertise guiding the project, with flexible delivery capacity and timezone coverage that keeps costs reasonable without cutting corners on quality.

How We Work with Bristol Teams
03
From SME Internal Systems to Enterprise Integrations
Bespoke development scales across company size. An SME owner might need a custom CRM that talks to their accounting software and generates compliance reports. A CTO might need an internal tool that automates provisioning or connects five disparate data sources into one dashboard. A startup founder might want a client-facing platform that differentiates their product. In each case, we're solving a specific business problem with code that's built for longevity, not thrown away after one sprint. That includes documentation, handover support, and the option to scale up development if your needs grow, or move into a support retainer once the software is live.

CASE STUDIES
How we've transformed enterprises, SMEs and startups
Founded in 2007 as a dedicated IT consultancy, Evolved Ideas has grown into a team of over 100 professionals, with a head office in Leicester and development hubs in Eastern Europe and Spain.
Bristol's South West tech and creative cluster attracts ambitious SMEs and scaling businesses that often outgrow generic tools faster than they can adapt. Local CTOs and founders need software partners who understand both the business constraints of a regional hub and the technical standards expected in a competitive market. Bespoke software development in Bristol means working with a team that operates out of Leicester but maintains relationships across the UK and Europe, so you get local attentiveness paired with nearshore delivery flexibility and the breadth of engineering talent that only a distributed team can offer.
Our process has guided startups, scaleups and enterprises from concept to reality, and continues after launch.
01
Discovery
A free 30-minute consultation followed by a stakeholder workshop, where we listen to your challenges, validate assumptions and build an outside-in view of your situation.
02
Plan & design
We scope the project, define milestones and deliverables, then research your market, wireframe the UX and prototype the UI so the direction is agreed before a line of code.
03
Build
We assemble your dedicated team, establish reporting and work in iterative Scrum sprints, delivering a working MVP or proof of concept you can test with real users.
04
Launch & support
We ship, sign off, and keep your product current through our support service or a permanent extended team as your business evolves.
Technology is more than just code — it's a tool for solving real business challenges. Whichever route fits your stage, the same team delivers it.
Bespoke Software
With your long-term goals in mind, we help you choose the technology you need and develop a tech roadmap based on industry trends, emerging tech and your business requirements.
We have years of experience building proof of concepts and MVPs. We will take you from testing viability to building an MVP to validate your hypotheses.
Tier 1 customer support, Tier 2 technical support and Tier 3 development support for applications and legacy software, delivered by our engineering teams.
If you need to build an IT team from zero or need staff augmentation, we can build the team you need — developers, designers, analysts and even fractional CTOs.
How do you know what to build if we haven't done this before?
We run a discovery phase with your team. That means conversations with stakeholders, observation of current workflows, and documentation of pain points and goals. We ask which integrations matter, what reporting you need, where manual work could be automated, and what compliance or security constraints apply. From that, we create a specification and design together, not in isolation. You see wireframes and prototypes early so there's no guesswork at build time. We also bring experience from other SMEs and mid-market clients, so we can flag what usually works and what causes problems later.
What's the typical timeline and cost for a bespoke software project?
It depends on scope, complexity, and how much of your existing infrastructure we need to integrate with. A straightforward internal workflow tool might take 3-4 months and sit in a specific budget band. A customer-facing platform with complex integrations and compliance requirements will take longer and cost more. We don't compete on being cheapest because cheap usually means shortcuts in testing, security, or architecture. We're transparent about cost drivers early on and help you prioritize features so you can phase delivery if budget is constrained. We'll give you a fixed-scope estimate once discovery is complete.
Do you handle integrations with our existing systems?
Yes. That's often where bespoke software adds the most value. We connect new platforms to your accounting software, CRM, data warehouse, e-commerce system, payment provider, or legacy internal tools. We map data flows, handle authentication and permissions, build APIs where needed, and test the integration thoroughly. If your existing system is poorly documented or aging, we account for that in the plan. Integration complexity usually means more time upfront but saves months of manual workarounds later.
What happens after we launch? Can you maintain and update it?
Launch is a beginning, not an end. We provide handover documentation and run training sessions so your team understands how to use it. Then you have options: move into a support retainer if you want ongoing maintenance, security patches, and minor updates handled by us; continue with ad-hoc requests; or bring the code and knowledge in-house with our support. Most clients choose a retainer because software does need attention over time. We also handle feature development if you want to expand the platform, scale new modules, or add user-facing capabilities as your business grows.
How do you ensure the software is secure and scalable?
Both are built in from the start, not added later. Our Centre of Excellence sets standards for code review, testing, authentication, data protection, and infrastructure. We apply those standards to every project, regardless of size. During discovery, we discuss your security posture, compliance requirements (GDPR, data retention, industry-specific rules), and anticipated growth. Then architecture and code are designed to meet those constraints. We also do load testing before launch if scalability matters to your use case, and we build monitoring so you can see how the system performs in production.
Can you work with our existing development team or take over a failed project?
Yes to both. Some clients have an internal team but need extra capacity or specialist expertise. We work alongside them, pairing on critical features, reviewing code, or taking on specific modules. If you're inheriting a project that went wrong or isn't working, we assess the codebase, identify what went wrong, and propose either fixing it or rebuilding sections of it properly. That takes honesty and sometimes means telling you the code isn't salvageable. We're consultants first, so we give you straight advice even if it means more work.
