Technical Discovery and Product Scoping in London

A scoping meeting is usually a single call where someone outlines features. A discovery workshop is a structured engagement with multiple stakeholders. We run it over 2-5 days, covering technical architecture, business constraints, team capacity, and risk. You get a detailed technical brief and estimate, not just a feature list. Both serve founders and CTOs, but discovery gives you much more clarity on the path to execution.

At minimum: the founder or product owner, and one technical person (CTO, lead engineer, or architect if you have one). If you're integrating with existing systems, bring someone who understands those. We'll guide the conversation. The goal is to build consensus on scope and approach across the people who'll actually run the build.

A good discovery brief has three tiers: MVP (launch to users), phase 2 (next quarter), and backlog (future). During build, scope creep typically lands in the backlog or phase 2, not the MVP. We also build in buffer time for unknowns. If new requirements surface, you know the impact: do you push phase 2 or expand the budget?

Yes. We validate it, challenge assumptions, and stress-test it against your real constraints. Often we find that an architecture looks good on a whiteboard but creates data pipeline problems or ops complexity in reality. We'll refine it or propose a better approach based on what your team can actually maintain.

That's one of the biggest wins of discovery. You find out before you've committed months of development time. From there, you can shrink the MVP, extend the timeline, grow your team budget, or pivot the approach. A clear-eyed understanding of effort is better than a comfortable lie.
